THIS is a small glimpse of the sports people and teams that have made the headlines in the sports pages of The Impartial Reporter on this week down through the years.

In 2006, Fermanagh edged out the mighty Dubs in a tight encounter in Division One at Brewster Park. Eamon Maguire and Mark Little put the Ernemen two ahead and although Dublin pulled one back, the home side held on for the win.

Also in GAA, there was double disappointment for St. Joseph’s in the 2001 Ulster Vocational Schools’ U-14 and U-16 finals at Brewster Park.

In rugby, Enniskillen man Mickey McGurn was part of the coaching staff as Ireland claimed the Triple Crown with victory over England at Twickenham in 2006.

In 2011, Portora Boat Club’s Boy’s 1st 8 exceeded all expectation as they finished ninth overall at the London Head of the River, and in doing so they became the highest finisher by any Irish school at these prestigious races.

In rallying, Fermanagh man Marshall Clarke was co-driver for Dave Mirra as they finished third in the 100 Acre Wood Rally in America in 2011.
