Cavan 1-19 Fermanagh 2-16
Cavan’s Brian Fitzgerald hit four late unanswered points as Fermanagh had to settle for a draw in their NHL Division 3B meeting in Breffni Park today.
Fitzgerald notched 13 points in all for his side to salvage a draw from a game that Fermanagh will feel that they should have saw out.
A Barney McAuley penalty, that saw Cavan goalkeeper Darren Sheridan black carded, had helped the Ernemen into a 1-09 to 0-08 half time advantage and when Mark Slevin bagged a second goal early in the second half it pushed the away side into a six point lead, 2-09 to 0-09.
However, Fermanagh were reduced to 14 men as JP McGarry picked up a second yellow card and soon after Cavan swooped for a goal through Caoimhin Carney to make it 2-12 to 1-13.
The sides traded scores over the next period but two Sean Corrigan frees put Fermanagh into a four point lead with 65 minutes on the clock.
The closing spell though belonged to Cavan with the accurate Fitzgerald converting three frees and a point from play to deny Fermanagh a winning start to their league campaign.
