Goalkeeper Chris Snow enjoyed a winning return to inter-county football last Saturday as Fermanagh defeated Cavan in Brewster Park in the first round of the league.

Snow’s last game for the county was the 2017 All Ireland Qualifier loss to Armagh - Pete McGrath’s last game in charge.

However, he accepted the invitation from Ryan McMenamin to come back into the fold this year and it is so far so good.

“It is good to be back and it was a good way to start with a win as we’ve been on the losing end to Cavan a fair few times over the years I’ve been involved so it is nice to get one back over them and get the league off to a good start,” he said.

It is a changed squad from the last time that Snow was involved with a lot of young players making their mark and the experienced Snow has been impressed with the new faces.

“They have given us fresh legs and energy and to be fair to them they all have really good attitudes and are willing to listen.

“You call somebody in to do a job or try and get them back into a pocket and they just do it. They are all very eager and they do the right things,” he said.

In terms of the goalkeeper’s position, Snow got the nod ahead of Sean McNally but the Ederney man feels that his young challenger will have a long career in the county jersey.

“Sean was in last year and played in the championship so he has that experience and he will be an outstanding keeper for Fermanagh for years to come, no doubt about that. From my point of view though I just have to try and put in decent performances to try and keep him out of the team.”

Next up for Fermanagh is a clash with Derry at Owenbeg on Saturday and Snow knows that it will be a huge challenge.

“It is a massive test. I got the chance to watch a bit of their game against Longford and they seemed to be motoring well so it is going to be another step up.

“I would say that Derry are maybe a little bit further down the line than where Cavan are at the minute and Rory (Gallagher) will have a good knowledge of our lads and he’ll have his homework done.

“It is what you want though, it is an opportunity to go to Owenbeg to fight for a win that would put you in good stead for a promotion chance. We will go there optimistic of a result,” he said.

And he says that the key for Fermanagh is building on last Saturday night.

“Some of the boys were saying that they beat Roscommon last year in the first league game but then ended up relegated.

“Yes, it was great to get the win on Saturday but the feet have to remain on the ground. It is only one win and it won’t count for anything if we don’t put in a performance on Saturday night.’
