Fermanagh’s win over Ulster Champions Cavan last Saturday showed that the Erne side can play football with the best in Ulster.
It was an entertaining game which saw Fermanagh move away from the overly defensive football of recent years and it paid off.
And while they did not pack out the defence, Fermanagh were solid with Cavan failing to trouble Chris Snow.
It was this strong defensive effort which was the springboard for some of Fermanagh’s best scores as the likes of Jonny Cassidy and Luke Flanagan provided a massive burst of pace to Fermanagh’s play.
This quick transition will be vital when they travel to Owenbeg on Saturday (5pm) to face Derry.
With Rory Gallagher in charge it is likely that they will pack their defence.
Fermanagh will have to capitalise on any chance they have to put Derry on the back foot.
Up front, the impact of Sean Quigley on his return was self-evident.
Alongside his nine points the free role he had  let him influence the game more often.
His play making ability, alongside his accuracy will have to be at the same level come Saturday or Fermanagh could find themselves struggling for scores.
Fermanagh showed a real hunger against Cavan and it could be seen in the energy brought to proceedings by the likes of Flanagan, Josh Largo-Elis and Tiarnan Bogue and this youthful exuberance rubbed off on the more experienced players.
Also, there was more fluidity to Fermanagh’s play than in recent years.
In Derry, though, they face a formidable task.
Former Erne boss Gallagher will know most of these players inside out and you can expect the likes of Quigley and Ciaran Corrigan will come in for some close attention on Saturday.
Derry were very impressive in hammering Longford with Conor Glass an instrumental figure.
They have well established players throughout the team including Brendan Rogers, Ciaran McFaul and Shane McGuigan who should go head to head with Jonny Cassidy.
At times against Longford, Derry had all their players back in their own half while they applied a serious amount of pressure to Longford players forcing numerous turnovers.
Fermanagh will need to transition quickly to avoid clogging the Derry half and if they get the ball in to their forwards in space they showed against Cavan they can rack up a decent score.
Fermanagh have nothing to fear and against Derry on Saturday as they have another chance to take a massive step towards promotion.
