Tempo 0-08 Ederney 2-08

SECOND half goals from Paul McCusker and Enda Cassidy secured a first win of the season for Ederney against Tempo on Friday night.

Tempo enjoyed the better of things in the first half as they went in with a 0-05 to 0-03 advantage, but Ederney gained the upper hand after the interval with the two goals ultimately proving decisive in the outcome.

Having had a bye last week, this was Tempo’s first competitive run-out of the season and Manager Stephen Jackson felt that they had plenty of positives to take away from the contest.

“We got plenty out of it, from both a players and management point of view, especially in the first half where things we have been working on in training came to fruition, so that was pleasing to see.

“But the combination of a black card and Ederney’s good defensive set-up was the difference in the second half,” stated Jackson, with Derrygonnelly to come this Friday night.

“These are good games to be playing and it is all about getting ready for the league when it starts in a few weeks’s time,” he added.

And it is all about that preparation for the league for Ederney Manager Mickey Cassidy as well.

“You learn more from these matches than you do from training, and it is good to get games at this level for some of the younger lads as we move towards the league. It was good to get the win, but that’s not the most important thing at this stage,” he said.

Tempo began the game well and had good success on the Ederney kick-out, claiming seven of the nine Ederney restarts in the first half, as well as doing well on their own.

The Maguires scores in the first half arrived from Eunan McCann, Sean Corry and Damian Kelly, but two Paul McCusker points – one from a free and one from play - and a Pol McKervey point left two between the sides at the interval.

Tempo lost Oisin Jackson to a black card early in the second half, and it was during this period that the St. Joseph’s men turned the game in their favour to take the lead.

Ederney began to press higher up the pitch on the Tempo kick-outs in the second half, and they reaped their rewards for this as a loose pass from Tempo goalkeeper Matthew Jackson was gathered by Paul McCusker, who lobbed the ball over the keeper to the net.

Paul McCusker, Pol McKervey and Conor McGee all added on points for Ederney in the second half, while Tempo had scores from Niall McElroy and Corry.

Ederney themselves had McKervey black carded, but Tempo found it very hard to break down the Ederney defence despite having the extra man.

And it was Ederney who were to go on and put the game to bed with ten minutes left as Enda Cassidy got in for their second goal to wrap up a 2-08 to 0-08 victory.
