THIS is a small glimpse of the sports people and the teams that have made the headlines in The Impartial Reporter on this week down through the years.

In 2011, triathlete Gavin Noble produced a terrific performance in Japan to take second place in the Amakusa ITU Triathlon Asian Cup.

Enniskillen man Noble was part of a group that got clear during the swim and they went on to add to their lead during the cycle section before he finished the race in the runners-up spot behind eventual winner Kyle Jones.

In GAA, Fermanagh advanced to the semi-final of the Ulster Minor Football Championship with a hard-earned but richly-deserved two-point victory over Tyrone in 1996. Rory Gallagher and Rory McEnhill combined to set up Declan Fitzpatrick for a late decisive goal as the Erne side won, 1-08 to 0-09.

In 2016, Irvinestown’s John Maguire claimed his first national outdoor title as he and partner Mike Breslin from Leeds secured victory in the Over-55s Doubles at the Irish Veterans Championship held in Templeogue, Dublin.

He added this title to the two national indoor titles that he had previously won.

In the Telegraph Shield final in 1971, there was victory for Enniskillen High over Enniskillen Rangers, who had won the competition in the three previous years.

Finally, in golf, Keith Elliott and Dermot Sheridan won the Killyhevlin Open at Enniskillen Golf Club in 1991.
