Castle Hume hosted the Cooneen Group sponsored competition last week with a large field of entrants taking to the manicured, and tricky, course.

Playing one of his best rounds ever, Brian Melarkey started to put a memorable score together completing his round to record a winning score of 44 points.

In runner up spot with a wonderful score of 42 points was Albert Connor who has recently returned to competitive golf.

Completing the main winners and making a welcome return to the podium was Tristan Treacy with 41 points. The Gross Prize was picked up by Geoff Sharpe with 33 points.

Congratulations to all the Winners this week.

Castle Hume Teams were also in action at the weekend.

The All Ireland Fourball Team were up against a strong Carnalea Team with three matches played at Carnalea and two matches at Castle Hume.

With the Castle Hume home matches going in their favour, it was a different story for the away players. With Carnalea narrowly winning the first 2 matches, it was left to the last match to decide the overall result.

With players all square after 18 Holes, it took three extra holes that saw Castle Hume just losing out to leave a final result in favour of Carnalea by 3-2.

The Pierce Purcell Team suffered a similar fate against a strong Aughnacloy team. With the match all square it was again an agonising defeat for Castle Hume as the last match went again to extra holes. Again the opposition came out on top with a final result of 3-2.

A very high standard of golf was on display by all the Teams and played in great spirits.

Competitive golf will continue this week with the second Sumner Series event. The event will give the option of either Stableford or Stroke play format. Full information on entry.
