Enniskillen Rangers manager Michael Kerr says he was pleased with the two workouts his side had this week against Championship opposition.

On Saturday, the ‘Gers hosted Institute at the Ball Range, a game the visitors won 5-0, before then taking on Ballinamallard United at the same venue with Harry McConkey’s Ducks clinching a 5-1 victory on this occasion.

Kerr though was happy with both run outs for his side.

“They were two really good work outs for us,” said Kerr. “I have said all along that results pre-season don’t matter it is about getting good minutes and fitness into the legs. Everything is geared towards that opening game against Killen in the league on August 7,” he said.

Kerr was without a handful of regulars for both games with the Institute score harsh on the ‘Gers after they scored goals in the 89th and 94th minute.

“When I looked back on it, all the goals we gave away were down to our own mistakes and when you make these mistakes better opposition punish you but these are the best type of games to get us ready,” he added.

On Tuesday night Rangers and Ballinamallard played four 20 minute quarters.

Ballinamallard won the first one 3-0 while Rangers won the last 1-0 -Mark Cutler getting the goal -as it finished 5-1.

“Both sides played some great football but we maybe lacked a cutting edge.

“It was though good to have a look at lads against quality opposition.”
