It was an impressive end to the pre season for Enniskillen as they were dominant in their friendly against Lurgan.

14 different players managed to cross the try line for the Skins in a game played in very testing conditions.

Mark O’Shea and Angus Keys claimed hat tricks and Conor Keys grabbed a brace in a display which pleased coach Stevie Welsh. “We are very happy. It was tight first half but we ground it out and we scored some tried in the second.”

The range of scorers was another positive for Skins with Welsh saying it is a part of their gameplan they were looking to work on.

“The set-up of our team we are predominantly a lot of forward tries. For the last couple of year as we developed our gameplan we can go more expansive and work it from the inside out.It is great to see. If you speak to Mark (O’Shea) he probably hasn’t seen that much ball in the last few years so he’s happy now with the new system.”

With a Conference game away to Ballynahinch this weekend the before the league start, Welsh feels his side are in a good place.

“We’ve had a good pre-season. We probably give exposure to about 40 lads in the firsts. We learnt a lot about players. There are plenty of things we are doing well but plenty to work on. As far as the pre season goes we seem to be in a good place.”

Welsh has been impressed with the youth coming through the side and believes the squad are coming together well for the league opener at home to Cooke.

“Definitely a couple of fellas coming into the team and have really lifted the standard of the other boys and a real good breath of fresh air and I think they will make the step up no problem.

“Everything is going in the right direction. All our blocks are working well and we got through each phase well and we’ve had a look at nearly every player.

“It’s been a really pleasing pre season so far. If we get through this Saturday unscathed I think we will be in a good place for that Cooke game,” Welsh added.
