Maguiresbridge 4 Enniskillen Galaxy 0

Ronan McManus scored twice as Maguiresbridge cruised to a 4-0 victory over Enniskillen Galaxy.

His opener gave the ‘Bridge a half time lead, and a second early in the second half along with strikes from Ian Henderson and Owen McGovern secured the win that puts them just one point behind Galaxy, fifth in the Division Two table.

Manager Andy Carleton reckoned the performance and the result was another example of the heights his side can reach if they are able to field their strongest team.

“We had a few boys back and it made a big difference,” he said.

“If we have a full team out we are as good as anyone on our day, and if we could get that consistent team out all the time then we wouldn’t be sitting where we are sitting.

“They had one good chance and in fairness they should have put it in the back of the net, but our keeper made a great save.

“They never gave up and kept plugging away, but I thought we were dominant bar a 15 minute spell where we weren’t playing well.

“We got back playing football in the second half, and it could have been more.

Maguiresbridge had the best of the opening chances but it took them 20 minutes to break the deadlock, with McManus collecting a low cross and driving it low and hard into the bottom corner of the net.

Galaxy had a great chance to equalise ten minutes later, but JP Trimble in the Maguiresbridge goal did well to get his body in the way, and the ball looped over the bar.

Shane Ingram spurned another chance for the home team just before the interval, but early in the second half they doubled their lead when McManus headed in from a corner. A break down the right wing led to their third, with Henderson converting the cross at the back post.

Ciaran Campbell then had a shot saved as they continued to press forward, and they were rewarded with a fourth goal when Owen McGovern got on the end of a right wing cross.
