Enniskillen Athletic 1 Killen Rangers 2

Despite an encouraging opening quarter to the game, Enniskillen Athletic came away from Saturday’s encounter against Killen Rangers with nothing to show for their efforts.

Athletic remain just above the relegation places by a single point; however, they have played a game more than the bottom two sides, while the win lifted Killen into third place in the Mercer league.

For Athletic boss, Anthony Fitzpatrick, he was pleased with the positive start, but lamented the fact that his side could not hold on to the lead – something that has been all too common this season.

“I thought we shaded it in the first half, but that is five games this season we have lost by one goal.

“We are just not clinical enough in front of goal and that is something we need to remedy quickly.”

It was all Athletic in the opening exchanges of the game and the home side got their just rewards when Gavin Greene found the back of the Killen net.

However, it was to be a short-lived lead as Killen were back on level terms through a well-taken Graham Young effort.

From there until the half, neither team could find a second goal as it finished level at the break, 1-1.

It was the visitors who would establish a bit of dominance in the second half, and they were to make the most of it.

Decider

Stuart Duncan found the net for Killen and it was to be the goal that decided the game in the end.

Athletic did push for an equaliser but Killen defended resolutely.

A last-minute corner nearly yielded a goal for Athletic, but the ball sailed wide.

Next up for Athletic is an away trip to Mountfield, while Killen take on reigning Mercer League champions, Tummery Athletic.
