Enniskillen will be aiming to book their place in the semi-final of the Bank of Ireland Towns’ Cup this Saturday when they travel to Dromore for a last eight tie.

Skins have been something of Towns’ Cup specialists in recent years, contesting three of the last five finals and lifting the title in 2019.

Coach Stevie Welsh admits that it is a competition that his players seem to relish.

“The Towns’ Cup is the cup for us, over them all that is the one that we really like. Over the last few years we have been a formidable cup team and we really get going at this time of the year,” he said.

And he states that they are aiming to progress again in this year’s competition.

“We have had a reasonable season so far, we are top four and we are trying to maintain that and then the Towns’ Cup is the only other goal left that we can hit so we will push on with that and hopefully get a good team out on Saturday and give it a rattle.”

Skins suffered a 24-0 defeat at the hands of Clogher in their last outing last Wednesday night but Welsh says that they will look to take the lessons out of that game and move on.

“We got a bit of a run about and it is hard to take defeat to Clogher but it is one of those things, Clogher are a great team and are playing good rugby but we’ll just move on and look to learn from it.

“We’ll put the front foot forward for this weekend,” he added.

Dromore have struggled in the league this year and sit third from bottom of the Championship Division One table but Welsh still expects a tough test.

“They are down towards the bottom of the table but they will be looking to get some momentum going and they will be fresh too from having a week off. They had a good result the weekend before when they beat Carrick away so it won’t be an easy game but if we can get a team out and the boys turn up we would be confident,” he said.

Skins will be without Stevie Balfour who has been ruled out for the season but they are hopeful that a couple of other players will be declared fit.

Stevie Balfour is out for the year, unfortunately, we thought he might be back at some stage.

We have a few other wee niggles, Daire Hill was out for a couple of weeks and John Maguire is coming back, but hopefully with ten days off we can get the boys ready to go,” he said.
