Limavady U16s 7 Enniskillen U16s 43

The Skins U16 girls side deservedly booked their place in the semi-final of the U16 Cup with a facile victory over Limavady and will now play Banbridge for a place in the final.

Skins fielded a few players short of their normal squad with Aimee Ross out with a broken hand and Amy Meeke in England. They then matched a reduced number Limavady team of 12 and set about their work in a hard fought 15 minutes.

The Limavady pack were excellent but eventually the ball was moved out to the wing where Leah Irwin broke through under the posts to score and added the conversion.

The next try was also scored in a similar matter with Leah outpacing the excellent Limavady winger and she added the conversion again. 14-0.

The Skins forwards were starting to work out their mistakes and when the excellent Amanda Farrell broke through the defence, she was able to offload to Olivia Black to score. The conversion was again added by Leah.

Half-time lead

The fourth try was like the third but this time it was Alex Boyd and Sarah Corry that broke free to again offload to Olivia Black to score out wide. The conversion was missed but Skins led convcingly by 0-26 at the break.

The second half was a fantastic performance by the entire squad.

A try by the forwards, full of offloading by Victoria Murray, Keri Elliott and Jessica McCurry led to Amanda Farrell getting her deserved try with Leah adding the conversion.

Not to be outdone, the backs then went into action with fantastic handling from the stand-in scrum half Olivia Beavis passed the ball out through Katherine Armstrong, Sophie Moore, Freya Brennan, Madeline Hamill and eventually to Leah Irwin who won the foot race to the line.

Deserved try

Limavady summoned up all their efforts to score a well deserved try through their entire team and added the conversion to make it 7 – 38.

The last word deservedly went to the Fermanagh girls when Gemma Elliott broke the line and passed to Amy Taylor and then Maria Elliott and eventually to Alex Boyd for the final score. The conversion missed by Freya Brennan but the Skins girls had secured a resounding 7 – 43 win. They will now play Banbridge in the semi-final on Sunday, April 3 at Mullaghmeen.
