Fermanagh Junior Manager Chris McDowell and his backroom team have selected their 18 player squad, tasked with the challenge of competing at this year’s STATSports SuperCupNI 2022.
Due to the pandemic, this is the first squad announcement made by Co. Fermanagh since the class of 2019 were assembled for the most recent staging of the youth international tournament.
Speaking about his final panel, McDowell was at pains to emphasise the difficult decisions he and his management team had to make.
“There were definitely some tough calls to make when selecting the final 18. The standard of players attending our Talent ID sessions and the quality on display in the local, regional and national leagues is testament to the organisation and structure of boys youth football in the Fermanagh district. All credit to everyone involved.”
Highlighting the strength and depth at his disposal, McDowell has been able to selected three spare players, which can be called upon up until the tournament kick-off.
“As circumstances can change and the unforseen can happen, we have also named three players on a standby list,” he said.
McDowell also took time to show his appreciation to all the players who aimed to make the final squad.
“On behalf of the management team and committee, I would like to thank each and every player who attended our Talent ID sessions and who expressed an interest in representing Co. Fermanagh at the STATSports SuperCupNI 2022 tournament. You have acquitted yourselves in a positive manner and have done both yourselves and your clubs proud.”
Preparations will now ramp up for the Junior management teams and players, as the countdown to the North Coast is well and truly underway.
