There was more than a sporting touch to last Friday’s launch of Gerry McLaughlin poetry book, ‘The Breed Of Me’.

The Belleek native launched his book in Rockfield Community Hall, Ballyshannon, and three All-Ireland winning Captains in Anthony Molloy of Donegal football fame (1992), Joe Connolly of Galway hurlers (1980) and Conor Hayes, who captained Galway to two in a row in 1986 and 1987, were in attendance.

There was also a good turn-out from Fermanagh GAA as well as local clubs Erne Gaels and Devenish to offer their support to the popular journalist, who also had a large amount of his family there on the night.

McLaughlin says that it was an “emotional but happy night”.

“What a night, filled with songs, stories and scintillating bonhomie at the launch of ‘The Breed Of Me’.

“It was a very emotional but wonderfully happy occasion as my family, friends and colleagues made this into one of the most epic nights of my life in Rockfield Community Hall, Ballyshannon, which was resplendent,” he said.

‘The Breed Of Me’ is on sale now in local shops and pubs and costs €10/£10.
