Annabele Morrison and Frank Buchanan both produced storming runs to take medals at last weekend’s Tailteann Schools’ Interprovincial Championships in Tullamore.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School pupil Morrison took gold in the Girls’ 3,000m, while Buchanan claimed silver in the Boys’ 1,500m.
Morrison sealed victory with a big PB of 10.05.58, holding off Claire Crowley of Munster, with both well clear of the rest of the field.
The Boys’ 1,500 followed a similar pattern with All Ireland champion Oliver Hopkins of Leinster and St. Michael’s Frank Buchanan breaking clear of the field early on, with Hopkins proving stronger over the closing 200m with Buchanan running a big personal best of4.06.48 for silver.
In a tactical 800m, St. Kevin’s Lisnaskea pupil Ben Warnock finished sixth as less than two seconds covered positions two through to seven.
All three local athletes are in their first year in the Intermediate (U-17) age group.
