Roslea 2-06 Ederney 1-16

Ederney made it two wins out of two in SFL Division One as they finished up seven-point victors away to Roslea last Friday night.

Mickey Cassidy’s charges had enjoyed the better of things in the first half as they went in at the break with a five-point advantage.

And although Roslea hit the back of the net twice in the second half, Ederney remained in control as they kept the scoreboard ticking over at regular intervals to secure the points.

Cassidy was happy to get the points, but acknowledges that tougher tests lie ahead with Derrygonnelly next up tonight (Thursday).

“It was good to get another win and we know that it is important to get a good start to the league after the Club Players’ Competition.

“We are aware though that tougher tests are ahead, starting on Thursday against Derrygonnelly, and we will have a better idea of where we are at after that,” he added.

Roslea are still awaiting their first points of the campaign and joint Manager Eamonn Kavanagh says that they can just keep working hard with another tough game against Kinawley to come this Friday night.

“It has been a difficult start, and on top of that we have lost James McMahon and have a number of injuries. It gets no easier this week with Kinawley, but we will just keep fighting and keep working,” he said.

The away side held the upperhand in the first half with Mark McCauley landing four points, with Chris Snow, Aaron Dennison, Declan McCusker and Pol McKervey slotting over.

Seamie Quigley, Niall Cosgrove and Shane Lynch registered for Roslea, but at the interval it was the visitors who led, 0-08 to 0-03.

Roslea did battle hard in the second half and had goals from Sean Quigley and Niall Beggan while Seamie Quigley missed a penalty.

Sent off

However, they were to finish the game with 12 men as Shane McMahon and Seamie Quigley were sent off after picking up two Yellow Cards while goalkeeper Ryan McCormack was shown a straight Red Card.

Ederney’s Aaron Dennison also picked up a straight Red Card in the game, but the away side remained on top with Marty McGrath finding the net while McCauley, Ryan Maguire, Dennison and Conor McGee knocked over points to ease them to the victory.
