(Ballinamallard win 5-4 on pens)

Ballinamallard U9s won the Foyle Cup in their age group following a dramatic penalty shoot out.

In a tightly contested final Ballinamallard edged the first half and their best chance fell to Max Livingstone but his shot whistled narrowly wide as it remained scoreless.

The second period was cagey with half chances at either end as both teams looked to keep it tight and give very little away.

With no breakthrough at the end of normal time it was on to the dreaded lottery of penalties to decide the match.

Both teams missed one of their five penalties to take it to sudden death and after a Harps spot kick was sent wide it was left to goalkeeper Adam Mitchell to step up. He showed no nerves and scored his penalty to send the boys, coaches and parents ecstatic and spark wild celebrations as they lifted the cup which was last won by the club in 2016.

Manager Paul Benson was very pleased with his teams progress: “We started out this week with very little expectations on where we would finish up but with the intention of playing good football, getting the squad a good run out and above all else, enjoying it.

“What the players have achieved this week is nothing short of remarkable! I am so proud of each and every one of them and it has been a joy to watch them grow in confidence with each passing game.

“They are deserving of everything they have achieved this week and this is something they will remember for a very long time.”
