Magheraveely 0 Enniskillen Town 3

Two wins, six points, nine goals scored and none conceded; Enniskillen Town could not have asked for any better start to the new season.

Town opened their season with a resounding 6-0 victory over Mountjoy at their new base at St. Michael’s and they followed that up with a 3-0 win away to Magheraveely on Tuesday night thanks to second half goals from Cathal Beacom, Frank Wallace and Michael Simpson.

Joint manager James McKenna is pleased with how things have gone so far for his team.

“We are happy with it and I think for both myself and Rory (Judge) the most pleasing thing is the two clean sheets because we are both defenders.

“Look, we realise it is very early days and there are tougher tests to come but to win both games and to have scored nine goals is something we’re happy with and hopefully we can continue to build on it,” he said.

On Saturday Cathal Beacom nabbed a hat-trick fort Town with Frank Wallace, Mattie Holden and Ben Brown also getting on the scoresheet.

And they travelled to Magheraveely with confidence although they were coming up against a home side who hit 11 goals against Mountfield in their opening game.

Andy Little helped himself to five goals while Warren Stewart and Adam Dudgeon bagging a brace apiece with Joseph Williamson and Conor Callan also hitting the net in a comprehensive victory.

However, they were missing some key personnel for the visit of Town on Tuesday night and the away side shaded matters in the first half without finding the net.

Town did go close though to opening the scoring through Beacom but his fine effort crashed off the underside of the crossbar and down on to the line before it was closed.

The visitors also felt that they had a strong shout for penalty in the first period when Frank Wallace went down in the box following a challenge but the Town attacker was booked for diving.

At the other end the away side dealt well with the limit threat that Magheraveely provided as it remained scoreless at the interval.

Town though upped their game after the break as they began to move the ball quicker and they were causing problems for the home side with balls played in behind.

And it was from one such move that they took the lead. Mattie Holden clipped the ball over the full back for Wallace to run on to and he again went down in the area with the referee this time pointing to the spot. Beacom stepped up and converted to give Town the lead on the hour mark.

Five minutes later the away side doubled their advantage as a Brendan Lilley corner was met by Wallace at the back post and he sent a looping header to the net to make it 2-0.

And the third goal came from another corner as the Enniskillen side made it three goals in ten minutes, Simpson this time heading home.

The visitor continued to control things and Beacom twice went close but they couldn’t add to their lead as it finished 3-0.

McKenna believes though that his side will face a sterner test of their credentials when they take on NFC Kesh at St. Michael’s on Saturday.

“Kesh probably haven’t had the start they would have wished for but many people have tipped them for the league and we are under no illusions about how difficult the game is going to be,” he said.

Magheraveely will be aiming to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat when they travel to Castlederg to take on Dergview Reserves on Saturday.
