Kinawley 1-12 Roslea 0-10

Kinawley opened up their championship campaign with a win, the Brian Borus having five points to spare over Roslea in Kinawley this evening.

The Corrigan brothers, Tomás and Ruairi, were to the fore for the home side with Tomás contributing seven points while Ruairi bagged the all important goal which arrived midway through the first half.

There was only a point between the sides at the interval with Kinawley leading 1-06 to 0-08 but they stretched that out to four in the third quarter and were able to see the game out from there to take the spoils.

There was nothing separating the sides in the early stages as they shared the first four points, Tomás Corrigan landing the two Kinawley points while Brendan Sherlock and Seamus Quigley registered for the Shamrocks.

Another Corrigan point edged the Brian Borus back ahead while it then needed the outstretched boot of Roslea goalkeeper Danny Mohan to turn an Aaron Tierney effort around the post.

Lorcan McKenna though drilled over the subsequent '45 to put two between the sides but Roslea hit back with Seamuis Quigley converting a free and a mark to tie things up.

However, this was followed by the key score of the half as Ruairi Corrigan skipped around a couple of challenges before planting his shot in the back of the net. And when Sean McManus tagged on a point from a mark the Kinawley lead was four points, 1-05 to 0-04.

Roslea though finished the half well as they hit four of the last five points of the half to cut the deficit back to the minimum.

James McMahon, Sean Quigley and Seamus Quigley (2) fired over for a battling Shamrocks to leave it 1-06 to 0-08 at the interval.

Kinawley though took a grip on proceedings in the second half. Tomás Corrigan knocked over a free and a mark before Ruairi Corrigan popped over to make it 1-09 to 0-08.

At the other end Conor Quigley had a goal chance for the Shamrocks but he fired wide.

Seamus Quigley accounted for the visitors first point of the half from a free but Ruairi Corrigan answered with a fine point to put four in it again.

A further Seamus Quigley score from a free, his seventh point of the tie, left the goal dividing the teams but Kinawley finished things off with points from Tomás Corrigan and Liam Owens to leave them 1-12 to 0-10 victors at the finish.
