While eight teams will battle it out in the Senior and Intermediate championships this weekend for a place in their respective semi-finals, the game all teams would have wanted to avoid will also be played to see who will be relegated from each championship.

In the Senior Championship, Ederney and Teemore finished bottom of their groups and will face each other in a bid to keep their senior status for one more year.

It will be an intriguing battle between Fermanagh’s most successful Senior championship club, Teemore and Ederney who won the competition as recently as 2020.

Indeed it is Ederney’s second relegation play-off since beating Derrygonnelly in that decider. After a sluggish start they overcame Tempo in 2021.

Mickey Cassidy’s side have been hampered this year by the absence of key forwards, Mark McAuley and Sean Cassidy.

McAuley pulled the strings for Ederney while Cassidy showed himself as a quality full forward.

While McAuley has been missing due to travel Cassidy did feature as a sub against Kinawley on his return from injury.

There is plenty of experience in the Ederney ranks in the shape of the McCuskers, Declan and Paul, Marty McGrath and Conor McGee and they will every ounce of it if they are to overcome Teemore.

Teemore will be without Cian McManus which is a huge blow but they have some young quality in their ranks that could cause Ederney problems.

Oisin Murphy, Colm McNally, Paul Doherty and Niall Clarke will complement the likes of Damian Lee, Aaron McManus and Eoin McManus.

Having missed out on promotion from Division Two, they will be desperate to continue playing at the top level of championship football in the county.

In the Intermediate Championship, it is a local derby as Maguiresbridge and Lisnaskea meet.

John Reihill’s Skea side were very competitive in all their group games with only a couple of points separating them from the other sides.

But they failed to win one and it will be a big task to stop that losing streak.

Joe and Justy McDade will provide the platform for Lisnaskea with Hayden Lynch and Damien Óg Kelly to help out, while Mark Kelly will marshall the defence.

It will not be easy against a Maguiresbridge side who showed up well at times in the games in their group against Belcoo, Devenish and Derrylin.

In Ciaran Corrigan they have a player that can terrorise defences alongside Danny Teague. But they will need plenty of support from those around them.

When the sides met in the league in July, it was the Emmetts who came away with the points courtesy of a 1-12 to 1-06 victory.

Both teams play quite defensive football so a low scoring tight affair can be expected as both sides fight for their Intermediate future.

Ederney and Teemore play on Saturday in Lisnaskea at 4.30pm while Lisnaskea and Maguiresbridge face each other in Newtownbutler on Sunday at 1pm.
