After a three-year hiatus the hugely popular Enniskillen Spooktacular 5km will return.

With the Covid-19 pandemic putting the brakes on the night time race around the island town, as well as putting on hold the 10th anniversary celebrations, runners of all levels and abilities will be able to get out on Friday, October 28 to welcome back what is beleived to be Ireland’s largest 5km race.

And for those who do take part there are bespoke medals, special edition tshirts, prizes and more.

Having started off with just 256 runners at the first Spooktacular, Dessie Elton, race co-ordinator said the race had grown to 1300 in 2019 and he was expecting similar numbers this year round.

“As the saying goes it’s the only race in town,” said Dessie who is encouraging anyone interested in completing the 5km circuit to get registered.

“It is good to be back and to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

“Night time racing is different and there should be a good crowd.

“It is the same route, a very scenic route. A nice wee undulating route.”

Dessie hopes a number of elite athletes will be on the starting line at the end of October, including Fermanagh distance runner Conán McCaughey.

Conán recenlty won the 10,000m NI&Ulster Men’s Championships.

He also paid tribute to the race’s main sponsors Western Cars, Nature’s Choice and Murdock Builders Merchants.

So as Enniskillen Running Club put it: “Whether you’re a wickedly fast running wizard or a slow and steady skeleton this is the run for you.”

And after it all your entry will get you a bowl of stew or curry in Pat’s Bar while there will be prizes handed out for the best costume on display.
