Enniskillen Athletic ABC’s Ben Millar put on a masterful display of boxing at the weekend to claim gold in the Wexford Box Cup.

The competition itself is seen as the largest and most competitive Junior Box Cup in Ireland and beyond with teams travelling from all over Europe to compete against the best of the best in there respected age groups.

Ben was drawn a semi final on the Saturday against last year's All Ireland semi finalist from Rylane Boxing Club in Cork. After a cagey first round Ben stepped it up in the second round landing a devastating body shop to slow his opponent down.

In the third round Ben showed his class by comfortably beating his opponent to the punch, countering and making all his shot selections land to win the bout by unanimous decision.

Whilst the weight cut was tough for Ben he had to fast without food or water for all over Saturday afternoon and evening to weigh in again for the final on the Sunday. Once his weight was made he was up against local Wexford boxer from Marble City Boxing Club.

The coaches knew from the outset that for Ben to get the decision he would have to win and put on a show as they know it can be difficult to get the result especially against a home town favourite. But Ben is never fazed and stepped into the bout and again put on a clinic of boxing. Each round was won comfortably even the last round whereby his opponent knew he was losing and came out aggressive and looking for the finish, but this just played into Ben's hands as he countered everything his opponent threw at him to again win the bout by unanimous decision.

This was Ben's first competition of the season and is the perfect start. To hold such a prestigious title and the first to claim the gold from Fermanagh and Tyrone is a huge achievement. This will be a big season ahead for Ben and the club can’t wait to see what he goes on to achieve.
