St. Michael’s bounced back from last week’s defeat to Omagh CBS in their opening MacRory Cup group game with a 2-11 to 0-06 victory over St. Pat’s Cavan in Derrylin on Tuesday.

This was a much better performance from the Enniskillen school who led by two at half time before pushing on for the victory in the second half.

St Michael’s manager Peter Teague was delighted with the response from his players.

“I was really pleased with the boys response to our opening game against Omagh.

“It was clear all over the pitch that the lads took learning from that game and were eager to make amends.

“Obviously, it was an important result as it relieves the pressure slightly going into our last game against Letterkenny in two weeks time but there is still plenty to work on moving forward,” he said.

St. Michael’s started the game on the front foot as they quickly settled to race into a 1-03 to 0-00 advantage.

Lanty Feely, who made a big impact at centre half back having missed the Omagh game through injury, landed the opening score before Michael Burns doubled the advantage.

And the excellent Conor O’Hanlon followed up with the first St. Michael’s goal as he was teed up by Diarmuid Owens before slotting to the back of the net.

Lanty then tagged on his second point to make it 1-03 to 0-00.

Back though came St. Pat’s as they landed three points in a row and although Burns knocked over for St. Michael’s, the Cavan side finished with two further points to leave it 1-04 to 0-05 at the break.

And St. Michael’s were to kick on in the second half as Burns added two further scores while Feely notched his third of the game and Owens also tagged on a point to extend the lead to six.

Indeed, St. Michael’s went on to put the game to bed as James Corry grabbed their second goal and with Caolan Brennan landing an excellent score and Liam Corry also chipping in with a point they ran out convincing 2-11 to 0-06 victors.

This was a terrific all round team display by St. Michael’s with O’Hanlon, Feely, Tiarnan Wray and Josh Killilea all to the fore for Peter Teague’s side and the manager will be encouraged by a second clean sheet in a row.

St. Michael’s now have one group game left against St. Eunan’s Letterkenny, date and venue to be confirmed.
