Enniskillen Head Coach Stevie Welsh is hoping that their All Ireland Junior semi-final against Monkstown goes ahead at the second time of asking this Saturday at Mullaghmeen.

The game was originally scheduled for December 17 but was postponed due to the weather but it is looking good to go ahead this time around.

“We were all set for the last one and we were disappointed it didn’t go ahead as we felt we were in a good place the last time. Hopefully though it will all go ahead this Saturday and we are looking forward to training this week,” said Welsh.

Skins prepared for the game with defeat to Dromore in the league on Saturday and while it was a disappointing loss, Welsh was glad to have the game ahead of this Saturday’s big encounter.

“We were very disappointed last Saturday. We had a few boys back who hadn’t played since the first round game in the All Ireland and it was a sluggish affair but we just didn’t take our chances. We should have had a bonus point before half time and then to lose it in the last couple of minutes was disappointing. “But, it was good to get a game under our belts. It was three weeks since our last game and we are glad that we didn’t go straight into an All Ireland game so in that regard it was a benefit for us,” he said.

Welsh has a few injury concerns ahead of the game but he is hopeful of having a strong squad to select from.

“James Carleton hurt his shoulder so we will see how he is during the week and Jack Rutledge and Jordan Hylton have to go through concussion protocol but hopefully they will be alright. Time will tell, it is part of the game but we wouldn’t like to be going into Saturday without any of them. Neil Rutledge is also away on a trip but we are confident that we will have a good squad for the game.”

And he says that there is a keen interest, not just about the club, but around the town surrounding the game as Skins bid to make a first ever All Ireland Junior Cup final.

“Leading up to the last one it was good being around town and people who wouldn’t normally talk about rugby were asking about it so it is good that people around the town have recognised the achievements of the boys and that it is a big game and not just your average game. Hopefully, we will have a big crowd up there to get behind the boys and we can go on and get a results,” he said.
