Micheal Glynn is looking forward to getting going at Larne after he left Derry City to sign for the Premiership pace-setters.

Glynn enjoyed a successful loan spell at Glenavon, but having been recalled by Derry City last week he has signed for Larne in a swap deal. Glynn and Joe Thomson have left the Candystripes for Inver Park, with Ben Doherty moving in the opposite direction.

“It is exciting times for me, going into a full-time environment at a club that is looking to win trophies, and I’m looking forward to it,” said Glynn.

The former Ballinamallard player had an idea that something was on the cards when he was recalled by Derry City and he says that once he met the Manager and saw the facilities at Larne, his mind was made up on the switch.

“Once I was recalled back from my loan at Glenavon to Derry, I kind of knew that something was happening and that I would be going somewhere.

“I spoke to Larne and went down and met the Manager and had a look around the facilities, and that made up my mind – it was an easy decision from there. I knew it would be the right place to go.

“The facilities are top-class and everything is provided for you.

“The pitches, the training ground and the stadium are brilliant and it is a good environment to develop in, hopefully,” he said.

The opportunity to go full-time was also a big incentive for the Derrygonnelly youngster and he feels that can only help him.

“We’ll be training every day and hopefully I will be able to do my college work in the evenings. I think going full-time will help me progress and develop more quickly as a player,” he added.

Glynn had proven a hit at Glenavon and he said he loved his time at the Lurgan Blues.

“It was a good opportunity for me and it was a successful loan; I got five goals and six assists in 16 games. I loved my time there – the lads were great, and I will look back on it with fond memories,” he added.

The focus now though for Glynn will be on settling in at his new club with a lot to play for over the remainder of the season.

“It will take a few weeks to get settled in and get comfortable and get to know the lads and the staff but I’m looking forward to it.

“We are still in the Irish Cup, and then you have the County Antrim Shield and the league, so we will just compete in all three and at the end of the season see where we are,” he concluded.
