On March 11 1973, St. Michael’s secured their first ever Ulster Senior A Grade Colleges title, the coveted MacRory Cup, with a 1-10 to 0-10 victory over Omagh CBS at O’Neill Park, Dungannon.

And a 50th anniversary reunion of that victorious 1973 St. Michael’s MacRory Cup winning panel is currently being planned for Friday March 31 in St. Michael’s College with organisers seeking photographers and memorabilia to put on display on the night.

The reunion will include players, family members of deceased players and coaches/trainers, MacRory finalist players from the sixties and seventies, teachers and supporters.

The reunion will not only be about the 1973 winners but also about the preceding and succeeding teams who manfully representing St Michael’s College but may never have collected the blue riband, the teachers and others who helped manage teams.

Many may not have had the obvious success of a medal but they nonetheless made St Michael’s among Ulster Colleges Gaelic football hierarchy.

The evening will also encompass the school’s MacRory Cup history from 1965 to 1974 when they competed in six finals.

The Reunion organisers are seeking photographs, memorabilia from the 1973 campaign including the final, and also from the five other finals.

In this Digital/Social Media age photos are bountiful, however, in 1973 a pocket sized mobile phone was a long way off.

St Michael’s College are hopeful of having a permanent photographic display of the 1973 team along with the 1965, 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1974 finalist teams.

If you do have any any material relating to the above please contact Dermot McManus ( 07721626767) or Frank Cassidy ( 07860693986).

Any photographs or memorabilia forwarded will be scanned and returned safely and as soon as possible.
