Enniskillen U14 Girls made the long journey to Hamilton Park Newtownards to play an Ards/Donaghadee team two places below them in the league.

Conditions were calm and bright and after six minutes the deadlock was broken.

Skins forwards were beginning to link well with the backs and Nikki McChesney, playing her first game at centre, made a strong break feeding Natalie Turner who finished an impressive move with a try under the posts. Alice Seaney converted confidently.

The second score came soon after. Ards kicked high into the winter sun, the ball was beautifully collected by Ruby Moore. She passed to Jessica Kingston who carried well before releasing the deceptively quick Mia McGrath who scored a fine try.

Julia Mulligan, who was revelling in her role at scrum half, got behind the Ards defence, Mia McGrath brought the ball on only to be hauled down metres from the line. Seaney was rewarded for her determined support play and scored the simplest of finishes.

From the next kick off, Ards made the mistake of kicking directly to Natalie Turner who powered round the entire home back line to score Skin’s fourth try. Seaney added the points.

Turner had her hat trick minutes later with another converted try.

The last try of the first half fell to Julia Mulligan, an elusive runner with a low centre of gravity who Ards found impossible to stop. The points were added leaving the score 0-38 at half time.

Skins brought on four substitutes for the start of the second half and Mulligan soon got her brace of tries which effectively ended the match as a contest.

With the match conceded, Ards were allowed to play with an extra player. Captain Abbie McCarthy-Magwood leading her team from the front, linked with Jessica Kingston and Lilly Ella Morrison from a quick tapped penalty sending player of the match Natalie Turner over for her fourth try.

With Ard’s numbers now at 15 players to Skins’ 13, the hosts to their credit began to come into the game. Determined defence by Cara Brock and Julia Mulligan held the ball up as Ards breached Skin’s line for the second time in the game but were not allowed to ground the ball.

Aerin Daley scored Skins penultimate try showing her pace beating an Ards defence greater in number but whose spirit was tested and who were undoubtedly counting down the minutes to full time.

The final whistle came soon after, but not before Skins crossed the Ards line for the tenth and final time. Rowena Kells, stepped several flagging Ards defenders to score leaving the final score 0-63.
