Tummery Athletic 4 Magheraveely 0

Tummery Athletic kept their foot on the gas as they continued their pursuit of Mercer League leaders Enniskillen Town with a 4-0 win over Magheraveely at Crawford’s Lane.

A brace from Paudi Dillon and goals from Blain Campbell and Adrian McCaffrey were enough to secure a comfortable win in wet and windy conditions on Saturday afternoon.

The win keeps Tummery in second, 11 points behind Town but with three games in hand.

Player-manager Ryan Hanna was pleased to see his side pick up three points on Saturday.

“Happy with the performance and the result.

“Our attitude and application was really good. I thought we played some excellent football and scored some lovely goals, but the basis for the performance was our pressing and energy out of possession.”

Despite a positive opening eight minutes from the away side, it was Tummery who found the go-ahead goal as some neat build-up play around the penalty area eventually led to Dillon being slipped through on goal via a pass from Emmet McNabb and the attacker fired low to the net to open up the scoring.

Tummery took a hold of proceedings following the opener and their second came in the 19th minute when Dillon made a darting run into the box before being brought down.

Referee Sean Andrew pointed to the spot and Blain Campbell stepped up to double his side’s lead.

Magheraveely tried to find a way back into the contest before half time, but they were unable to create any clear-cut chances as the sides went into the break at 2-0.

However, they did come close to finding the game’s next goal at the start of the second half as forward Andrew Little watched his right-footed shot from the edge of the box fly just over the crossbar.

Dillon all but sealed the win after the hour mark when he found the ball out wide before cutting inside and firing a rocket into the top left corner to make it 3-0.

An outstanding fourth goal followed to wrap up proceedings as Adrian McCaffrey spotted the Magheraveely goalkeeper off his line and his shot from around the halfway line found the net to leave the Tummery home supporters happy.

Next up is a home game against Beragh Swifts this weekend with Hanna adding: “We’ve played Beragh twice already this season and both were tough wins.

“They have a lot of quality players which we will be prepared for but ultimately, we need to ensure we reach the levels of the last game.”
