There was a record turnout for the Enniskillen Spooktacular 5K which was held in the town last Friday night.
The Spooktacular is now one of the major events in the sporting calendar in Fermanagh and last week’s event saw over 1000 runners take part in the race through the streets of the county town, beating last year’s turnout of 880 competitors.
The Spooktacular attracted runners of all differing abilities with some opting as always to go around the course in fancy dress while those at the front of the pack set a hot pace over the new route.
First home on the night was Foyle Valley Running Club’s Scott Rankin in a sub 15 minute time of 14.55mins to secure the Martin Dillon Memorial Cup.
On a night of quality racing, second place went to JP Williamson of Derry City Track Club while last year’s winner and former Enniskillen Running Club member Conan McCaughey, who now competes for Derry City Track Club, came in third in a time of 15.13mins.
The Female race saw Enniskillen native Patricia O’Hagan, who runs for St. Peter’s Lurgan, go one better than last year to claim the victory. Patricia crossed the line in a time of 18.44mins with Marina Murphy coming home in second spot in 19.08mins. And Enniskillen Running Club’s Edel Monaghan completed the top three, securing third place in 19.12mins.
In the Male Over 40 section, Omagh Harriers Fergus McGirr claimed the win, crossing the line in 16.34mins, ahead of Colin McNulty of Finn Valley.
Enniskillen Running Club’s Eamonn Monaghan was first home in the Male Over 50 section in 18.17mins with Kenny Boylan second in 18.48.
The Male U18 was won by Derry City Track Club’s David Gormley with St. Michael’s AC’s Domhnall Lynam producing a fine run of 17.31mins to take second spot.
In the Female Over 40 category, Sasha Gannon was first home in a time of 20.43mins.
And in the Female Under 18 section, Ava Thompson finished first in a time of 20.53.
