The Western Juniors Inter-Zone title hopes were ended on Saturday when they went down to North Down at the semi-final stage of the competition.

From the very first end played, Western juniors were up against it. B Power’s rink dropped a single shot, S Cadden’s rink drop two shots and D Graydon’s rink pick up a single after the first end. In the next end all three western rinks across the three mats lost a total of nine shots. In the third end both S Cadden and D Graydon’s rinks secured two shots each with B Power rinks dropping a single. In the fourth end B Power rinks gained their first shot, D Graydon’s rink also pick up a single and S Cadden’s rink dropped a single. At the halfway stage after the five ends had been played, Western juniors were now trailing after B Power’s rink dropped a single leaving them 7–1 down.

S Cadden’s rink had a no score end with their scoreline at 5–2 down and D Graydon’s rink pick up a single to leave their scoreline at 5–3 up. In the sixth end, D Graydon’s rink continued their winning ways by securing two shots, S Cadden’s rink lost one shot and B Power’s rink also lost a single shot. Over the next two ends S Cadden’s rink secured two shots but then dropped four shots, B Power’s rink picked up two single shots and D Graydon’s rink dropped a total of six shots. Unfortunately, in the two remaining ends to be played, D Graydon’s rink lost another three shots, B Power’s rink picked up two shots and then dropped a three and S Cadden’s rink secured three shots in there remaining two ends. North Down ran out clear winners, 33–19 to secure their place in the Final against North West zone. After two ends played S Cadden’s rink were three shots down. D Graydon’s rink were five shots down and B Power’s rink were level at two shots each. After three ends played, D Graydon’s rink and B Power’s rink both secure a single shot each and S Cadden’s rink secured two shots. By the fifth end, S Cadden’s rink had dropped four shots, D Graydon’s rink had dropped three shots and B Power’s rink had picked up two single shots.

The overall scoreline was Western 8 shots Armagh 17 shots. In the second half, Western knew that they had to knuckle down and try to swing the game back in their favour.

D Graydon’s rink started of well by picking up three shots in the next two ends, B Power’s rink gained one shot but dropped a shot in their next two ends and S Cadden’s rink dropped two single shots over their next two ends. In the eighth end B Power’s rink was the only Western rink to pick up shots. In the final two ends of the game, D Graydon’s rink secured eight shots to run out winners of their game 12–10. B Power’s rink picked up two shots to win their game 10–3 and S Cadden’s rink dropped a single and gained four shots to lose their game 4–13.

The final scoreline was Western 26 – Armagh 26.
