Bernie Donnelly and Eamon McPartland from Mullaghdun Bowling Club will be representing Western in the final of the over 55s Pairs Nationals competition to be played in Richhill Community Centre on Saturday, March 28. The pair won four straight games to reach the final and beat last year’s winners B Taffe/S Conroy from the Redeemer Club in Oriel zone in the semi final.

In the final, the Mullaghdun pair will play D Curran and partner from the St. Patrick’s Club from mid-Down zone.

In the other competitions played in Shaw’s Bridge, Belfast on Saturday, March 7 Jude Morris from St. Michael’s was beaten in his second game by M. McCullough from Killymurris Club in mid-Antrim zone, Jude had beaten A Buchanan from Carnone Club in Donegal zone in his first game.

Karol Bradshaw from St. Joseph’s beat A. Corrigan from Carrickmacross in Oriel zone in his first game and then got beaten on a tied end by Nicky Haire from Hillsborough Social Club, in Lisburn zone and Gary McNabb won his first game against B. Kane from Dunluce Parish in North Eastern zone and then was beaten by A. Steele from Greenbank Club in Donegal zone.

The rink from Wellington skipped by Ally Graham with Ivor Armstrong in lead, Jean Carson second and Johnny Breadon in third won their first game against a rink skipped by Nicky Haire from Hillsborough Social club and then lost their second game to a rink skipped by M. Turley from Glenn Club in South Down zone.

In the Ladies Singles, Esther Forster from Clogh got a bye in her first game and then won her second game against J. Patterson from Knock Methodist in South East Belfast zone, in her next game Esther had reached the quarter final stages and met a lady called G. Rouiller from the Kilanny Club in Oriel zone unfortunately Esther lost this game and finally in the Junior Pairs competition Matthew Ferguson/Hannah Ferguson from Devenish were unable to travel to Belfast to represent Western.
