A struggling Tiger Woods shot a career-worst round of 85 on Saturday at the Memorial tournament, leaving golf fans worldwide wondering if he can get back to the high standards his career was renowned for.

The 14-time major champion, who ended with a quadruple bogey on the final hole, ‘hit back’ with a 74 to finish plum last on Sunday, 29 strokes behind the winner.

Woods’s 302 total at Muirfield Village - where he has won a record five times - also marked his highest score in a 72-hole event as a professional.

The 39-year-old has recorded just two top-20 finishes in his last 14 events and now ranks 181st in the world.

Tiger’s performances are best summed up by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus - record 18-time major champion “Tiger’s running from teacher to teacher. In today’s technology, I think Tiger just needs to go back and review some of his own things rather than listen to somebody else.

“He’s the only one inside him who knows what’s really going on. He’s the only one who’s been able to fix what he’s got.

“I think he’ll get it back, I still do. He’s just too focused, he’s too hard of a worker, and he’s got such a great work ethic. It’s just going to be a lesson for him.

“He’s got to help himself, and he’s got to get where he can take the golf club, and take it back and know where the ball is going.

“Please go do that, because the game needs you, Tiger. You’re a good player, you’re a good guy and we miss the game you’ve been playing.” As previously mentioned in this column, Tiger’s best option moving forward is a reconciliation with former coach Butch Harmon.

PGA Tour This week’s event is the FedEx St Jude Classic. Billy Horschel at 16/1 could be a good option this week as many of the top players are not competing.
