Ederney’s Declan McKeever enjoyed big success recently as he won the Volvo Golf Digest Irish Grand Final which was held in Glasson House Hotel and Golf Club.
The win saw Declan awarded the Volvo Golf Digest Champion Golfer of the Year and he also received the Volvo Golf Digest Champions Cup, the biggest silver trophy in the history of Irish Sport.
The Fermanagh man, who is a member of Murvagh Golf Club in Donegal, will now go to Gothenburg, Sweden, on all expenses paid trip to represent Ireland in the Volvo World Golf Challenge on June 15.
“I was really pleased with my round in tough conditions, the course was playing very long. I hit the ball fantastic all day, hit every fairway and green exactly where I needed to hit, and again the putter was exceptional for me. I had a game plan for each hole from the practice round and stuck to it. A few of the holes I had picked out for good birdie chances at the start and thankfully that went to plan,” said McKeever.
The finalists from over 24 different countries will have the golfing experience of a lifetime, not only the chance of being crowned the Volvo World Golf Challenge Champion, but the leading finishers will take part in ‘Playing with the Pros’-playing with two European Professionals in a Pro-am.
And Declan is looking forward to the competition.
“I cannot wait to represent Ireland at the Volvo World Golf Challenge in Sweden. It will be an unbelievable event playing against golfers from all over the world, and to have your own caddie and experience the full Professional Treatment will be unreal.
“So if I can repeat the way I played and putted who knows what the outcome will be.”
