Fermanagh District Council and the PSNI have adopted a joint approach to littering, reminding locals that littering is an offence that can incur a £75 on-the-spot fine.
In an aim to step-up litter enforcement in the County, Fermanagh District Council Litter Warden, Colleen Sloan recently accompanied Constable Gavin Huey from the PSNI’s Neighbourhood Policing Team on patrol.
The team called at various locations, at which Police and residents have experienced problems with littering and anti-social behaviour in the past.
Constable Huey highlighted the joint approach on the PSNI’s Fermanagh Facebook page and encouraged the public to keep Enniskillen clean and hence avoid a £75 fine.
To date, the post has received a total of 3,702 views, 82 likes and several positive comments commending the initiative.
Commenting on the joint litter patrol initiative, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Councillor Bert Johnston said: “Fermanagh District Council is delighted to team up with the PSNI’s Neighbourhood Policing Team in order to address the issue of littering. "Given that Enniskillen recently won the prestigious title of Ireland’s Best Kept Town 2014 and Best Kept Large Urban Centre category, we are keen to maintain the high standards of cleanliness already in place. As Ireland’s only island town, Enniskillen is a unique and charming place and we must strive to keep it that way.” For further information on the joint litter patrol initiative, please contact Colleen Sloan, Litter Warden, Fermanagh District Council on (028) 6632 3533 or email colleen.sloan@fermanagh.gov.uk
