AN Interim Board of Governors will be established to take forward all arrangements to effect the amalgamation of the Collegiate Grammar with Portora Royal School, the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) has confirmed this afternoon (Friday).
It will be comprised of a 50/50 membership from the Collegiate Grammar School’s Board of Governors and Portora Royal School’s Board of Governors.
Commenting on the Minister for Education’s decision to approve the amalgamation, a WELB spokesperson, said: “This strategic direction is in the best educational interests of all post primary pupils in the controlled and voluntary non-denominational sectors in Co Fermanagh and will ensure the long term sustainability of both the new proposed Grammar School and Devenish College.
"The WELB, in proposing the amalgamation, did so to enhance the educational experience and opportunity of pupils attending the Collegiate Grammar School and Portora Royal School.
"The full support of the WELB and the new Education Authority will be made available to both schools and the Interim Board of Governors to ensure a successful amalgamation," they concluded.
