The 2016 ‘Tour of Fermanagh’ annual charity cycle has chosen the Oisín McGrath Foundation as its charity partner.

Starting and finishing in Lisnaskea, the cycle will take place on Saturday, June 4, offering three individually tailored cycle routes (60km, 100km and 150km) for cyclists of all abilities and fitness levels, whilst showcasing the beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings of County Fermanagh.
“The Oisín McGrath Foundation is a good fit for us,” said Tour of Fermanagh organiser Barry King. “It is a local charity that we felt was appropriate and important for us to support.”

Now in its fourth year, the event is hosted by Lisnaskea Emmetts in association with Clones Cycling Club. All routes will be fully marshalled on the day, including motorcycle outriders from the local Mad Dog Motorcycle Club. The cycle is aimed at all levels of cyclist, from relative newcomers to experienced endurance athletes.

“In previous years it has attracted riders from Ballycastle to Mayo. There seems to be an appetite for this type of event in Fermanagh and we are trying to feed that appetite,” Mr. King continued.

Outling the three options, Mr. King said: “The 60km route is a scenic but relatively flat tour of the Fermanagh Lakelands which will provide an enjoyable test for novice cyclists. The 100km route is aimed at more experienced road cyclists and takes in some more rugged countryside with challenging ascents, fast descents and stunning panoramic views. Finally, the 150k “Sportive” course will satisfy experienced cyclists looking to test their endurance. Sportive riders will follow the route of the 100km tour before completing a demanding course which includes the notorious climb over Carnmore Viewpoint; ‘the Rock’.”
”We aim to promote sport through a local community-based event whilst raising money for valuable charities – previous charity partners have included Marie Curie cancer Care and the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice.”
Online registration is now open and more information can be found on the Tour of Fermanagh facebook page.
