A 20-YEAR-OLD man accused of wounding another man with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm (GBH) has been returned for trial.

Mark Mellor, of Crom Cruaich Way, Belcoo, is charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding John Carey, with intent to do him GBH, on June 14, 2016. Mellor appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday morning for a preliminary enquiry in his case.

A Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative told the court that, based on the papers submitted, the defendant had a prima facie case to answer.

There was no contrary submission at this stage from defending counsel, Stephen Mooney.

District judge, Nigel Broderick, observed he was satisfied there was a prima facie case.

Mellor declined to answer the charge against him at this stage.

He further declined at this stage to give evidence himself, call any witnesses or tender a written statement of a witness.

Releasing him on bail, the judge directed that he attend Dungannon Crown Court for his arraignment on Thursday, November 10.
