Communities Minister Paul Givan has announced a new major public realm scheme for Enniskillen Town Centre.

This morning, the Department for Communities (DfC) said it is investing approximately £4.7million in the project with a further £500,000 being provided by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

Enniskillen Business Partnership has campaigned for a public realm scheme for many years. The announcement comes on the Assembly's first day back and hours before a Northern Ireland election may be called.

The DfC states that the scheme will be delivered over the next three financial years, “subject to confirmation as part of the budget settlement.”

Improvement works including paving, landscaping, street lighting and furniture will be delivered on a number of streets to further enhance the town centre, building on the recently completed Castle Basin Project and revitalisation scheme.

Minister Givan said: “This scheme has been identified as the highest regeneration priority for Enniskillen addressing issues of pedestrian movement, safety and traffic circulation within the town centre.

“I am delighted that my Department and the Council have once again been able work together to deliver improvements for Enniskillen Town Centre.”
A DfC spokesman added: “The Department for Communities is currently working with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to appoint a team who will be responsible for taking this outline stage through to implementation.

“The scheme will be delivered over the next three financial years, subject to confirmation as part of the budget settlement.

“Given the value of this appointment it must be procured through the EU Procurement Process and it is hoped that the appointment process can commence immediately.”
