The Erne Model Railway Club once again hosted a successful Model Railway Exhibition and Collector’s Fair at St. Macartin’s Cathedral Hall on Saturday September 22. This was a special year for the club as they celebrated 20 years since their first exhibition in 1998.

Model railway enthusiasts came from far and wide to showcase at the exhibition. Members from clubs in Dublin, Belfast and Bangor brought along their detailed layouts and working model trains, which along with the Erne Model Railway Club member’s own collections, created a spectacularly diverse display on the day. There was also a great selection of trade stands with diecast collector’s models, scenic materials, plastic construction kits and all sorts of modelling accessories for sale at the exhibition.

Throughout the day there was a steady flow of visitors which included many young model train fans who enjoyed playing conductor and using the controls to send Thomas the Tank Engine around the track of the colourful circus layout.

Exhibitor Roland Palmer was awarded a cup on the day for the best layout voted by the public. Sourcing pieces from Germany, Roland’s layout was small but brilliantly executed with details such as working swing boats which appealed to the voters’ eye.

The club also held a special draw on the day to mark the 20th anniversary of the exhibition, with prizes provided by local shop keepers.

Overall the exhibition was well-attended and was thoroughly enjoyed by club members and visitors alike.
