A 29-year-old-man, who said he was “caught short” while on a night out with friends in Enniskillen, has be fined £250 at Fermanagh Magistrates Court this week.

Lawrence McCorry, with an address in Lurgan Co Armagh, pleaded guilty to indecent behaviour and obstructing police.

The court heard that at 3am on November 18 police observed the defendant urinating in Pagent Lane. When they approached McCorry he identified himself under a different name. Upon searching the defendant police found his driver licence, which displayed his real name.

He was arrested for indecent behaviour and obstructing police.

Speaking on behalf of his client, barrister Stefan Rafferty explained that McCorry was in Fermanagh for the weekend visiting friends.

“He was visiting friends who had a boat on Lough Erne for the weekend. On this particular evening there had been a high profile rugby game and spirits were high,” Mr. Rafferty explained.

He went on to say that the defendant and the friends he was with had ordered a taxi and were waiting for it to come. The barrister told the court that the taxi took some time to come and that his client “was unfortunately caught short”.

“He has limited recollection of being obstructive to police. This was an act of drunken stupidity,” Mr Rafferty revealed.

The defendant appeared in court with his mother with his barrister revealing that this “incident had brought shame on himself, on his mother and on his wider family”.

District Judge Michael Ranahan stated that “this was not the crime of the century” and that he would take into consideration that it was 3am in the morning when the incident took place.

He fined the defendant £125 for each of the two offences.
