Drivers using the Lakeland Forum car park were taken aback this week with the appearance of a parking attendant at the entrance to the facility.

The attendant, who worked for a security company on behalf of the Council, was stopping motorists as they made their way into the Forum and quizzing them about their reasons for using the car park.

One person, who was stopped at the entrance admitted the whole thing took them by surprise.

“I was most surprised when I arrived at the Lakeland Forum this morning to be met by a security person at the entrance gates.

“I had to confirm that I was going to use the facilities within the Forum,” the person explained.

When contacted by this paper, the Council said the reason for a “parking management system” was due to maintenance works taking place at the car park beside the Enniskillen Castle.

A spokesperson for the Council said: “The car park at Enniskillen Castle Museums is currently undergoing repairs and is out of use until Monday of next week.

“This work impacted on the number of car parking spaces available to users of Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and to facilitate parking for Forum customers, it was decided to introduce a parking management system at this car park from Tuesday through to Friday of this week.”
