Local comedian and entertainer Gary Wilson is still reeling after being invited to perform for His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales at an exclusive evening in the throne room of Hillsborough Castle. While Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were attending a Garden Party in Gary’s home county of Fermanagh, Gary was preparing for what he describes as “the gig of his life!”

Gary explained: “Earlier this year I was invited to meet Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Belfast Mrs. Fionnuala Jay O’Boyle, but had no idea what for, when she explained what I was being asked to do needless to say you could have knocked me down with a feather, and for those that know me, that wouldn’t be easy!”

Gary continued: “I was of course sworn to secrecy and that was very hard to do, but I was so excited and felt honoured to be given this opportunity.”

On the evening Gary, who was accompanied by his wife Jennifer, performed his comedy set for Prince Charles and 100 of his specially invited guests including Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenants from every County in Northern Ireland.

Gary explained: “To be standing a few feet away from The Prince of Wales spinning a few tall stories was something I would never have dreamt would happen to me, but it did and most importantly he laughed!”

After the performance Gary and Jennifer were presented to HRH and a beautiful reception followed in the Castle.

Gary concluded: “It will be an evening I will long remember and was indeed an honour and privilege to perform at such a special, intimate prestigious occasion.”
