A woman has been attacked in her own home during an aggravated burglary.

At around 11.05pm on Wednesday, June 26 a male entered a property in the Lough Shore Road area of Derrygonnelly.

Once inside the property, the male entered the bedroom, threatened and assaulted the woman before leaving on foot.

Police say nothing was reported stolen.

The victim sustained minor injuries to her arm and leg.

Independent Councillor for Erne West, Bernice Swift has called on the local community to be extra vigilant and look out for each other following the incident.

“”I am very shocked and alarmed at this very frightening incident which was undoubtedly traumatic for the victim who should not feel afraid and unsafe in her own home. Given what is known about this incident I caution everyone to be aware of their own safety and security and ask people to please watch out for each other,” said Councillor Swift.

In a statement police say the suspect is described as being approximately 5’6’’ tall, aged between twenties to forties, of a slight build and spoke with what was described as a local accent.

“This was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the victim in her own home, somewhere she rightly deserves to feel safe,” said Detective Constable Sayers.

“This has left the victim extremely traumatised and I am appealing to anyone who can help us locate the suspect to call detectives in Omagh on 101, quoting reference number 2473 26/06/19.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100 per cent anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” the detective concluded.
