A date has now been set for a Pride festival to take place in Enniskillen this summer, with planning underway for an event which will celebrate the LGBTQ+ community of this area and beyond.

Originally called ‘Enniskillen Pride’ the festival has recently been renamed ‘Fermanagh Pride’ and is due to take place in the county town on Saturday, August 8.

A meeting was held at the end of January with the intention of forming an organising committee for the event.

However, other than the new name and date, no details of plans for the event have been revealed.

Ahead of the meeting, which took place on January 28, Cross-Community Labour Alternative Councillor Donal O’Cofaigh called for support in the planning of the event.

Speaking to The Impartial Reporter at the time, Councillor O’Cofaigh said: “Anyone who wants to come along, the idea really is there are a variety of different political groups supporting it.

“And if we can form a committee I could see the role of the politicians as basically to support as opposed to taking the front row in it.”

“I’ll certainly help people if they can come forward. We will see what comes out of the meeting and see what sort of interest there is,” he added.

Following last year’s Pride celebrations across the world, a Facebook event page was set up to garner interest for a festival in Enniskillen.

To date over 700 people have shown their interest for the Fermanagh Pride festival via the event page.
