Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area is now among one of three council areas with the fewest Covid-19 positive tests, with only Mid Ulster and Causeway Coast and Glens having fewer positive cases.

The rate of positive tests has slowed in the Fermanagh and Omagh area, while neighbouring Derry City and Strabane District has seen a sharp rise in positive cases. On Friday, when figures were last released relating to district areas, Fermanagh and Omagh had 40 positive cases while Derry City and Strabane had 35. Over the weekend that rose to 42 for Fermanagh and Omagh and 51 for Derry City and Strabane.

There has been a widespread acceptance that many more positive cases are in the community right across Northern Ireland, but, given that testing criteria is the same for all council areas the low increase in new positive tests for the Fermanagh and Omagh District is to be welcomed.

However, the figures should indicate the need to continue following guidleines with regard to social distancing and only making essential journeys.

Day on day there were seven new deaths across Northern Ireland reported by the Public Health Authority today. 8740 people have been tested in total with 1158 positive tests.
