A woman who was left unconscious after a fall on a Lough Erne island in the Kesh area was taken to hospital by ambulance with a “suspected head injury”.

The Coastguard, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the incident which occurred at Duck/Kinnausy Island near Kesh in the very early hours of Saturday, August 15.

The NIAS received a 999 call at 12.02am on Saturday morning following reports of an incident.

A spokesman NIAS said: “NIAS despatched one Emergency crew to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to the South West Acute Hospital by ambulance.”

The RNLI were tasked to the incident by Coast Guard Operations Centre (CGOP) Belfast Coastguard at the request of the NIAS at 12.35am to assist with “a lady who had fallen and had a suspected head injury and was unconscious” in the area of Duck/Kinnausy Island near Kesh.

“Volunteer crew performed Casualty Care and was safely transferred to Hayes Caravan Park and handed to Ambulance personnel. The remaining party, one showing signs of and treated for shock were brought up the Kesh River with their boat to their departure point. Also in attendance were Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) West,” a spokeswoman for the RNLI stated.

One NIFRS appliance from Enniskillen Fire Station attended the incident following a call at 12.57am.

A spokeswoman for the NIFRS stated: “Firefighters were called to a special service call at Duck Island, Kesh in the early hours of Saturday morning. We were called to assist our colleagues in the Coastguard, RNLI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service with a casualty.”

Firefighters assisted with lighting while RNLI, Coastguard and NIAS tended to the casualty.

“The casualty was removed from the island and brought to dry land by the RNLI where she was placed into the care of NIAS. The incident was under control by 2.10am,” the NIFRS spokeswoman concluded.
