A MAN who was stopped by police twice driving an uninsured car has been handed a driving ban at Enniskillen Magistrates Court.

Terence McCann, 31, with an address of Manor View, Tempo, appeared in court on Monday where he was convicted of two counts of having no driving licence and two counts of using a motor vehicle without insurance.

On September 16, 2020, police observed a Vauxhall Corsa on the Tempo Road, which they stopped. The driver was identified as the defendant, but when he was asked to produce his driving licence and insurance documents, he was unable to do so.

He was given a production notice to produce the documents at a police station within seven days.

Just over a month later, McCann was again detected by police on the same road, driving the same car, and was subsequently stopped and cautioned.

Myles McManus, representing McCann, told the court that McCann was driving to work on the dates in question as he had no other means.

However, he has now changed jobs to one closer to his home, and now walks to work. He added his client is currently disqualified from driving, has no access to a car, and asked the court to give the defendant credit for an early guilty plea.

In disqualifying McCann from driving for 18 months, and fining him £1,000, District Judge Steven Keown warned McCann that if he got behind the wheel of a car before he is legally allowed to do so, his liberty will be at risk.
