THE community of Fivemiletown paid a dignified and respectful goodbye to the late Captain Hugh Robert Lowry, OBE, on his final journey through the village last Friday morning, February 26.
Mourners gathered alongside the funeral route in the Co. Tyrone village when Captain Lowry’s cortege passed.
Former service members saluted the Royal Irish Fusilier Captain’s cortege when it passed by.
Members of the Royal British Legion Fivemiletown stood outside their branch, forming a Guard of Honour, and lowering the Royal British Legion standard, with Charlie McClintock playing a lament on bagpipes.
The cortege was draped in the colours of the Royal Irish Fusilier’s regiment.
Captain Lowry’s cortege then journeyed through his beloved Blessingbourne Estate as it made its way to St. John’s Parish Church, Fivemiletown for a service of thanksgiving before his burial.
Captain Robert Hugh Lowry OBE died on February 19, aged 88. He is survived by his wife, Angela; children, Nicholas, Peter and Joanna; his grandchildren, Callum, Rory and Bertie; and his sister, Maimie.
Funeral arrangements were carried out by Marcus Madill, S. R. Elliott Funeral Directors.
