FOLLOWING claims by the Continuity IRA (CIRA) that they had fired shots at Enniskillen Police Station, and that a device was left close to the station, the PSNI say they found "nothing untoward" during searches of the area.

Earlier today (Monday), the CIRA claimed shots had been fired at the station from the Cornagrade area, and that a device was left on the Shore Path area.

A recognised codeword was understood to have been used, with The Impartial Reporter receiving a call from an alleged CIRA spokesperson.

However, a statement that evening from Chief Inspector Robert McGowan said: “Police received a report at 2pm on Monday, March 15 that a number of shots had been fired at the police station, and that a suspicious device had been left in the Shore Path area.

“A thorough search and proactive policing operation was carried out, with nothing untoward found in the Shore Path area, and no reports of any shots fired at the police station.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and police would advise the local community to be vigilant if they see anything suspicious in the area."

He added: “We would appeal to anybody with any information to assist with our enquiries, and to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference number, 1012 of 15/03/21.”
